Constructing Change
...unburdening yourself to create a new life.

Values and Philosophy
I believe that as we grow and evolve, our connections with ourselves, others and the world around us can become deeper and more fulfilling. However, when we are under stress, in a relationship crisis, or feel anxious or depressed, our connections to our loved ones and to ourselves is limited. We may be unable to communicate, feel angry, lack energy and feel overwhelmed. In order to relieve life's pressures, it is important to slow down, and become more self-aware----reconnecting with ourselves once again. Counseling fosters trust, and is a process that promotes change and growth. In our work together, we will identify the areas of your life that you would like to improve.

Training and Experience
I have a Bachelors Degree in Psychology from Concordia University, and a Masters of Social Work from the University of Central Florida. I utilize an integrative approach to therapy, combining cognitive, behavioral, and mindfulness strategies with interpersonal theories. We will work together to develop techniques, skills and new ways of looking at obstacles as opportunities.

Range of Focus
  • Affirmative practice with LGBTQ Individuals and Families
  • Couples Therapy
  • Depression
  • Anxiety
  • Relationship Issues
  • Domestic violence/abuse
  • Trauma
  • Children and Family Therapy
  • Life Transitions

Group Facilitation
I facilitate an on-going psychotherapy group for gay men seeking to establish, enhance, or maintain relationships with other gay men. This group provides a safe and supportive environment, allowing members to attend to how they form and maintain relationships as well as learn ways to establish greater intimacy and closeness.

Community Outreach
Not the Bars - I co-created a web-based meeting place for gay men who are looking for ways to connect to other gay men outside of the bar scene. Not the Bars provides an outlet for single or coupled members to post or respond to event-based activities such as theater, picnics, dog park rendezvous or dinner parties. Visit http://www.notthebars.com to join today. Also, see a feature article from TimeOut Chicago: http://chicago.timeout.com/articles/gay/19345/bar-none

CONNECTED - I co-created, (with fellow Live Oak staff member Mark Hodar) this monthly seminar series which invites gay men to gather in a casual yet structured setting to discuss identity, self-esteem, dating and relationships, sex, family, and masculinity. "Connected" provides both a setting for reflection and knowledge exchange and an opportunity for social connection.

We are a group of psychotherapists and consultants who provide counseling and educational services that enhance the emotional and psychological well being of individuals, families, organizations and communities.

We bring to our work decades of experience in clinical practice. Our longevity and success derive from the inspirational courage of our clients, our deep commitment to learning, and a strength-based philosophy that fosters growth, strengthens identity, and promotes real and lasting change.

The following principles inform our work:
  • We recognize the uniqueness of each individual.
  • We are goal-oriented.
  • We employ a strength-based approach that begins by respecting the courage it takes to attempt change.
  • We recognize that real and lasting change requires action.
  • We understand, recognize, and incorporate the interrelated nature of mind, body, and brain.
  • We are systems-oriented.
  • We establish a partnership based on mutual accountability and trust.
  • We recognize the harm that comes from discrimination and stigma, and therefore practice psychotherapy, consultation, and training that affirms the value of difference.
