INTERNSHIPS AND FELLOWSHIPS
Graduate Internships
Postgraduate Fellowships
Graduate Internships
Live Oak offers graduate internship experiences for individuals studying a variety of disciplines. These include, but are not limited to: social work, counseling, psychology, dance and movement therapy, family therapy, recreation therapy, and art therapy.
General Overview of the Program
We typically accept a maximum of three graduate interns per year, and ask that all interns commit to a 12-month experience (from June to June) regardless of the academic calendar of their graduate programs. Although we realize this is atypical, we are committed to providing both a quality experience to our students and continuity to the clients we serve. We have found that a 12-month experience maximizes agency, student, and client experiences.
Responsibilities
Regardless of specific discipline, we believe in providing each student with as varied an agency experience as possible. Graduate interns are required to spend a minimum of 20 hours per week engaged in Live Oak activities which may include: individual, couples, family, and group psychotherapy; program development; training; individual and group supervision; outreach; and policy development.
Qualifications
- Completion of all academic requirements necessary to engage in field placement
- Flexible schedule, including the ability to be on-site evenings and/or Saturdays
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to be in placement for 12 months (June-June)
- Maturity and self-direction
- Commitment to the underlying philosophical principles of Live Oak
To Apply
Those interested in applying for an internship at Live Oak should e-mail a cover letter and resume to: Jeff Levy, LCSW, CEO, at: jlevy@liveoakchicago.com.
To receive maximum consideration for an internship, materials should be received by 2/15, though we will accept applications until all positions are filled.
Postgraduate Fellowships
Consistent with Live Oak's mission, the Postgraduate Fellowship Program (PGFP) provides opportunities for new professionals to gain experience in providing psychotherapy, training, and consultation to individuals, families, organizations, and communities. The PGFP offers fellows increasing levels of responsibility over the course of two years. Upon conclusion of the program, fellows will be able to:
- Provide systemically focused psychotherapy to individuals, couples, families, and groups with particular expertise in services to lesbians, gay men, families and youth at risk;
- Provide training on a variety of topics to audiences in mental health settings, child welfare settings, youth services settings, and homeless services settings
