Values and Philosophy
My work is guided by both a psychodynamic and relational approach, taking as a leading tenet that establishing connection in relationship is a core human necessity. While therapy is directed toward present relationships in one's life-as sources of support and conflict-it also honors significant past relationships and the therapeutic encounter itself as contextual tools for the work.

Training and Experience
I have over six years of direct practice experience working with adults, adolescents, and children. At four Chicago-based agencies, I have led numerous groups in topics that include substance abuse, advocacy, and art therapy. I have taught a variety of courses on literature, philosophy, and psychology in the at-large program at the G.G. Jung Institute in Evanston. In addition to my work at Live Oak, I am currently a doctoral student at the University of Chicago, where I research community mental health policy and practice.

Range of Focus
  • Relationship Issues
  • Spirituality
  • Depression
  • Anxiety or Fears
  • Addictions or Substance Abuse
  • Divorce
  • Affirmative Practice with LGBT Individuals/Families
  • Loss or Grief

Individual Psychotherapy
I work with individuals and couples dealing with life transitions, relationships past and present, depression, anger, and social anxiety.

Group Facilitation
This summer I will begin a dream group at Live Oak. It will use the creative synergy of a small, ongoing group to attend to and work the dreams that participants bring each week to the group. All participants will be encouraged to keep an active dream journal and to share up to one significant dream per session. The group will provide inquisitiveness and interpretive input to help members parse and extend the meaning of dreams in their lives.

Professional Training
I have two Master's degrees from the University of Chicago, one in social work and the other in the history of religions.

We are a group of psychotherapists and consultants who provide counseling and educational services that enhance the emotional and psychological well being of individuals, families, organizations and communities.

We bring to our work decades of experience in clinical practice. Our longevity and success derive from the inspirational courage of our clients, our deep commitment to learning, and a strength-based philosophy that fosters growth, strengthens identity, and promotes real and lasting change.

The following principles inform our work:
  • We recognize the uniqueness of each individual.
  • We are goal-oriented.
  • We employ a strength-based approach that begins by respecting the courage it takes to attempt change.
  • We recognize that real and lasting change requires action.
  • We understand, recognize, and incorporate the interrelated nature of mind, body, and brain.
  • We are systems-oriented.
  • We establish a partnership based on mutual accountability and trust.
  • We recognize the harm that comes from discrimination and stigma, and therefore practice psychotherapy, consultation, and training that affirms the value of difference.
